At the turn of the New Year I decided it was time to get healthy and turn over a new leaf. I couldn’t think of any better way to do this than to start training for a half marathon. I have many friends who lost lots of weight and generally had an increase in happiness after they started running more. I figured a full marathon would be too much after no training so I decided a half marathon would be a fun goal to set. I signed up for a gym that had very good treadmills and got to work. When the event finally appeared I was ready to run my 13.1 miles. But, there was one thing I wasn’t expecting. I had been used to training in the air-conditioning. After I rounded the 4th mile my legs started to cramp up because they were working so much harder than they were used to. I tried eating some bananas, drinking sports drinks, and stretching but nothing worked to fix my legs. In hindsight, it would’ve been wise to split up my training between indoors and outdoors. But how was I supposed to know that training with central air would have such a drastic effect on my time. I know for the next half marathon to run to section out my training both in and outside of HVAC. Now I just need to find a place where I can safely run outside.
